Poem: Please

Cry me to sleep with your tired eyes,
Filled with exhausted sighs
Spelling our demise.

Row me along in a river of tears,
Collected through the years
Just waiting for the storm to clear
Off the horizon,
Only seeing it accumulate
More madness.

But I’ll keep convincing myself of the
Inevitability of happiness,
As if it’s as guaranteed
As death.

I’ll glue us together with the permanence
Of rain on a window.
Hoping it’ll last just long enough
For us to work.

Raindrop after raindrop,
Try after try,
we’ll make it, won’t we?
Or are we no different
Than those worn out
Relationships that
Struggle onward?
Please say no.
Please stay.
